We’re happy to announce the recent completion of our successful church stained glass restoration project. We had the opportunity to completely restore most of the original windows at The Rising Church located in Arvada, CO. The community church is best known for its extensive homeless outreach. One night, someone walking by the church thought they heard noises coming from inside after hours. They decided to throw stones through the windows in order to prevent whatever was happening. Luckily, there wasn’t anyone inside but the windows were left severely damaged.
Stained Glass Restoration Process and Challenges for the Rising Church
After inspecting the damage across 90% of their original windows that were built in 1913, we brought these back to our studio for repair. They were soaked so our team could easily take them apart and clean the century’s worth of dirt off them. We found perfect matches for the damaged glass either from our inventory or through custom glass blowing and manufacturing. The hand-painted glass was invisibly mended in order to maintain the original. From there, the windows had to be resized since many of them had missing exterior lead frames that were intentionally taken out so they would fit the window frames. New lead was created and they were shaved down on-site to ensure a perfect yet structurally sound fit. We also added a protective polycarbonate layer with ventilation in order to provide optimal protection.
