Did you know that during the course of his career as an architect, Mr. Wright designed well over 4,000 leaded glass windows and doors? These were integrated into over 150 of his iconic and beloved buildings. And dare we say, they are a large part of the reason these buildings did become so iconic?
Wright often referred to these windows and doors not as stained glass, but as “light screens.” It’s a wonderful term, isn’t it? It conveys an image of airiness and light, which is what his style of stained glass did bring to a room.
With Frank Lloyd Wright stained glass, Houston homeowners have the opportunity to have light screens of their own, in any room of their homes. Sometimes referred to as the Mission Style, these windows had a very distinctive look. There were usually made up of intricate geometric patterns, many small pieces of glass, and that glass was mainly colorless. It also included various earth or jewel tone pieces in the design, but the preponderance of clear glass was what gave it the “light screen” quality.
And the intricate designs gave it a certain sophisticated feel and flavor that has never gone out of style, even though Mr. Wright was at the height of his career in the early twentieth century. In fact, this style of stained glass happens to work just as well with older and newer, more modern homes. It’s pretty classic, but it can even look amazing in non-traditional, avant garde homes.
