Beveled glass windows for a beautiful style.

Stained glass is available in many different styles, designs, patterns, and colors. However, vividly colored stained glass isn’t for everyone. We get that. It might make too much of a statement in your home. It might remind you of church stained glass, which is definitely not what you want.

In our two plus decades in the custom stained glass business, we’ve found that most of our residential customers do not want their windows covered with bright colors. They want stained glass that will blend with and enhance their décor, and continue to let in the sunlight. After all, a light and bright home seems to be something most people seek out and truly enjoy. Most of our residential customers opt for clear, colorless, frosted stained glass designs, including the use of beveled glass in the design.

Would like stained glass windows that are clear and do let in more light? Windows that make a completely different kind of statement in a whole different way? Beveled glass is added to leaded stained glass windows to add beauty and design elements.

If you are not familiar with beveled glass, it is a special thick glass. When the pieces are cut to fit the pattern of the stained glass design, the edges are not cut straight up and down. Rather, they are cut on a specific angle. It’s that angle that is known as a bevel. When those pieces are joined, the angles meet up and create a stained glass design with an interesting look and texture.

But the real beauty in beveled glass lies in what happens when the sun shines through it. Let’s say you have added a beveled stained glass window in your breakfast nook. You love that nook because it’s so bright and sunny and it makes such a cheerful way to start off your mornings. Imagine now that the same sun shines through your new beveled glass window. As the sun’s rays pass through those angles, those bevels, the light is refracted into prisms of color. If you’ve ever hung a crystal in a window, you know exactly what we are talking about. The prisms of rainbow color will dance across your room as the sunlight moves.

Beveled glass is a fantastic choice for any stained glass window. It is gorgeous in an entryway, striking in a bathroom, and perfect for any sunny room. If you’d like beveled glass in your custom stained glass window, be sure to let us know during your original design consultation. And speaking of design consultations, why not give us a call to schedule yours today?
